Welcome to "Internet.ORG," the site dedicated to the "dot ORG" side of the Internet. Not only does it provide information on the technical foundation of the Internet (all of which was essentially built by organizations instead of corporations) but it also catalogs lists of volunteer and international organizations around the world. While providing general information about the Internet, the site helps highlight humanitarian and relief efforts around the world.

Volunteer Organizations

The Internet has enabled volunteer organizations around the world to expand their reach and their efficacy in ways that were never possible before.

International Organizations

Here are some of the major International ".org" Organizations. They are a mix of governmental, quasi-governmental, and non-governmental institutions..

  • Intergovernmental Organizations These groups help resolve conflicts around the world as well as provide aid and relief in many situations through governmental support.
  • Nongovernmental Organizations These groups are typically private in nature but are instrumental in providing much help in many humanitarian situations.

The Internet Organizations

The Internet was built through cooperation among many different individuals and organizations. Internet.ORG provides the fundamentals on the history, technology, software, and people behind the creation of the Open Internet.

  • Internet History - A quick history of the "Internet" (capital I) and some useful pointers to resources.
  • Major Organizations - A list of the relevant technical and management organizations for the Internet.
  • Open Source/Free Software - A summary of the differences between Open Source and Free Software and pointers to both.
  • Open Internet People - A brief list of some of the luminaries in the Open Internet.

Note that not all these organizations need to end in ".org". It's the intent of the organization as a volunteer or non-profit institution that's most important.
